Environmental Communication

My dual qualification enables me not only to create engaging designs but also equips me with solid knowledge in biodiversity, environmental issues, hydrography and the construction of outdoor installations. With environmental education, we can create a healthier planet for future generations.

Here are some examples of my work.

  • LIFE-Boat4Sturgeon: Reviving a River Giant

In collaboration with viadonau and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), I developed the visual identity for a unique vessel transformed into a state-of-the-art rearing station for sturgeon reintroduction in the Danube. Through extensive shipyard visits and iterative project meetings, we finalized a striking design that balances the corporate requirements of multiple stakeholders with an inviting, educational presence. We implemented a high-impact, wind-resistant branding strategy that turns the ship into a vibrant landmark, ensuring it is clearly visible and legible from the riverbanks, the Reichsbridge, and passing vessels.

The result is a joyful and eye-catching design that celebrates biodiversity and piques public curiosity. By creating a playful aesthetic that stands out from the standard industrial look of river traffic, the ship has quickly become a focal point for media coverage and official stakeholder events. It serves as both an effective communication tool and a functional scientific hub, successfully bridging the gap between nature conservation and public engagement.

  • Bridging Technical Expertise and Public Engagement at Danube Day

Every year, Danube Day brings together diverse organizations to educate children and families about the river’s ecosystem. While the event’s traditional activities were popular and effective at drawing crowds, I saw a unique opportunity to evolve our presence: by showcasing the technical expertise of our surveying and mapping department.

I initiated a strategic rethink of our outreach concept, shifting the focus toward making abstract engineering work tangible for young visitors. Working collaboratively within the team, I developed a series of modular tools – including custom information boards, a thematic coloring book, and an educational kit – designed to make technical surveying accessible.

This new approach allows the team to offer deeper insights into the essential work behind environmental projects, successfully inspiring the next generation of young researchers, particularly girls, to explore future careers in engineering and spatial science.

  • Brochure about invasive neophytes

A brochure aimed at raising awareness about invasive neophytes in the surroundings of rivers. It features an introduction along with a comprehensive index, providing a detailed profile of each species on its own page.

  • Map of Morava

The overview map of the March/Morava River for hikers and paddlers features the entire river course, including water management structures and restoration projects, which are presented on both sides of the fold-out map. The projects are explained in accompanying text boxes.

To ensure durability against water damage, the map is printed on innovative stone paper, which eliminates the need for coatings while providing a pleasantly lightweight texture.

Since the March River serves as the border between Austria and Slovakia, all texts are presented in both languages.

    VR Elements

As an added feature, the map includes a VR experience. Using an app, users can scan designated locations with their smartphones to access additional audio-visual content.

  • Themed Pathway Design
    in a Newly Renatured Floodplain

The ten information boards aim to complement the natural beauty of the landscape while providing an engaging experience for visitors. Themed around local flora and fauna, the pathway will serve both educational and recreational purposes.

The revamped floodplain represents a significant step towards ecological restoration and biodiversity enhancement in the region. The pathway is not only a means of navigation through the landscape but also an invitation to connect with nature and deepen understanding of the importance of floodplain ecosystems.

This project aspires to foster a sense of stewardship among visitors, encouraging them to appreciate and protect the natural environment.

This initiative is part of a collaborative effort led by viadonau, with funding support from the European Union.
