LIFE-Boat4Sturgeon: Reviving a River Giant

In collaboration with viadonau and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), I developed the visual identity for a unique vessel transformed into a state-of-the-art rearing station for sturgeon reintroduction in the Danube. Through extensive shipyard visits and iterative project meetings, we finalized a striking design that balances the corporate requirements of multiple stakeholders with an inviting, educational presence. We implemented a high-impact, wind-resistant branding strategy that turns the ship into a vibrant landmark, ensuring it is clearly visible and legible from the riverbanks, the Reichsbridge, and passing vessels.

The result is a joyful and eye-catching design that celebrates biodiversity and piques public curiosity. By creating a playful aesthetic that stands out from the standard industrial look of river traffic, the ship has quickly become a focal point for media coverage and official stakeholder events. It serves as both an effective communication tool and a functional scientific hub, successfully bridging the gap between nature conservation and public engagement.
